Lincoln Trail tops Glen Oaks baseball
Glen Oaks baseball fell 18-9 against Lincoln Trail College in their first of four games over the weekend in Vincennes, Indiana. It was a high-scoring affair with the Vikings getting ten hits and the Statesmen getting 15 hits over the contest's nine innings.
The GOCC runs came with two in the first inning, one in the second, and then two apiece in the third, fourth, and seventh innings. Lincoln Trail took the lead with three in the bottom of the first inning, then pulled away with six in the second. The Statesmen had two more in the third, one in the fifth, then six in the eighth to pull away.
Peyton Simmons led the Viking offense with two doubles and a single, three RBI, and one run. Brayden Clark had two hits and two runs scored. Andrew Onuegbu doubled with one RBI and a run scored. Jayden Hamilton scored twice with one RBI. The other runs came from Andrew Thorpe, McCullan Greene, and Cameron Humeston. Also getting hits were Steven Drewyor, Erick Marin, Brady Mescher, and Daniel Vizthum.
Samuel Dunlavy had the start on the mound and pitched three innings, allowing seven hits, 11 runs, six earned runs, five walks, and four strikeouts. Jackson Stewart tossed 4.1 innings of relief with six hits, four runs, three earned, two walks, and five strikeouts.
Glen Oaks plays Lincoln Trail again on Sunday in the final game of the weekend event. The Vikings will play two Saturday in Vincennes, first meeting conference foe Kellogg at 10:30 a.m., then the host Vincennes University at 6 p.m.
