Genesee Splits on Day One in Florida

LAKE MYRTLE, FLORIDA… The Genesee Community College baseball team opened the 2019 season with a split against NJCAA Division I Lake Land College (Ill.). The Cougars, who are playing 10 games during the Florida trip to start the season dropped game one, 3-2 and won the nightcap, 14-6.

In the first game, Colin Noeth (Bryon-Bergen) scattered three hits over five innings and struck out six, but Genesee gave up two runs in the seventh for the loss. Rodelfo Rodriguez had two RBI singles and Bryant Fontanez had his first double of the season.

With the rust off (Lake Land was playing their seventh game of the season), the Cougars (1-1) jumped out to a 9-0 lead in game 2 and didn't look back. Parker Cole (Bolivar-Richburg), Anthony Kanaval (Dansville) and Jacob MacLeod combined to strike out 11 in the win. Gabe Diaz (double, RBI), Bryant Fontanez (double, 2 RBIs) and Jordi Agosto (double, 2 RBIs) each had two hits while Eliel Martinez drove in four runs.

Genesee has two games Thursday against Academy Canada at 9:00 am and then will play Hibbing Community College at 12:30 pm, then resuming their Russ Matt Tournament play on Friday.
