Rend Lake College
The Glen Oaks Community College baseball team traveled to Illinois Friday to open the 2023-24 spring season with two weekend doubleheaders against Rend Lake College. In Game 1 of Friday's twinbill, Rend Lake claimed a 15-5 victory over the Vikings in five innings.
The Vikings jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Andrew Thorpe doubled, scoring two runs, Jayden Hamilton triples, adding another run, and Brady Mescher drew a walk to plate another run. The Warriors tied things up in the bottom of the first with a single and a triple. Rend Lake came up with a big five-run second inning on three hits for a 9-4 lead.
Starting on the bump for Glen Oaks was Jackson Stewart. He gave up seven hits and nine runs (eight earnd) in a two-inning effort. Brody Wardenburg worked two innings of relief with two hits and one earned run allowed and a pair of strikeouts. Hunter Tinervia gave up two hits in the fifth inning.
Thorpe led the Vikings with two doubles and three RBI in three appearances at the plate.
