VU Lady Blazers post 10-point win in final regular season road game

CENTRALIA, Ill. – The 2021 Vincennes University basketball season is beginning to wind down and the Lady Blazers took their show on the road for the final time this regular season to take on Kaskaskia College and VU came away with the 86-76 win.

The Trailblazer offense got started early, feeding Alexis Radcliff under the basket on her way to nine points in the first quarter of play. Radcliff's offensive showcase gave Vincennes the early 27-21 lead after 10 minutes of play.

VU continued to push the tempo offensively in the second quarter, this time going through Amani Brown as the Trailblazers built a 52-42 halftime lead.

The Blue Angels put up a fight in the second half, cutting the Trailblazer lead in half to just five points heading into the fourth quarter with VU still holding a 65-60 advantage.

Vincennes responded however to shut the door on a possible comeback attempt in the fourth as Shaila Beeler and Reeva Hammelman helped give the Lady Blazers their 14th win of the season and seventh win in a row 86-76.

Amani Brown led the Blazers in scoring with 22 points. Brown also grabbed six rebounds and dished out a pair of assists.

Shaila Beeler finished with 14 points, eight of which coming in the second half, while also finishing with seven rebounds and seven assists on the day.

Alexis Radcliff had 13 points, 11 coming in the first half and eight rebounds.

Reeva Hammelman was the fourth Trailblazer to score in double figures, finishing with 11 points and three assists.

Nina Blade nearly completed a double-double, finishing just shy with nine point and a team-high 10 rebounds.

Noni Russell came off the bench to score eight points, six of which coming in the first half. Russell also added two assists to her line.

The Lady Blazers now head into the final week of the regular season with a pair of home games still to play. VU will host Southwestern Illinois at the P.E. Complex Tuesday, March 30 at 5 p.m. before a showdown with No. 12 Wabash Valley Thursday, April 1.

Vincennes defeated Southwestern Illinois 78-56 in Belleville earlier this season.
