Mt. Carmel, Ill. -- Wabash Valley was dealt the task of trying to defeat the fourth-ranked John A. Logan Volunteers on Saturday at Spencer Sports Center.

The Warriors did indeed knock off the Vols, in a 79-77 Great Rivers Athletic Conference overtime thriller, but how it happened was most improbable.

As the second half began, the Warriors seemed up to the task, leading 40-24. From there, Logan would mount a comeback and eventually grab the lead.

The Warriors trailed, 70-67, with under one minute to go, when Darius Osborne stepped up and delivered a timely 3-point field goal.

Logan countered to tie the game at 70-70, then had the ball at the close with a chance to win the game in regulation. With 1.5 seconds remaining, a foul on the Warriors sent 6-foot-8 Vols' forward Sydney Curry to the free throw line.

However, Curry missed both free throws and the game went into overtime.

Curry would score first in OT, but seconds later picked up his fifth foul on defense and exited the game, joining fellow big 7-3 Jamarion Sharp, who had fouled out earlier, on the bench.

WVC, suddenly finding it easier to operate, went on a nine-point run to go ahead, 79-72.

The Vols weren't done, though. They would score the next five points to get back within two points, 79-77.

Again, Logan found itself with the ball at the close trying to extend or win the game. But a blocked shot by sophomore JeJuan Weatherspoon sealed the game for Wabash Valley.

Winners of four of their last five games, WVC improved to 10-7 overall and 5-5 in the GRAC. Logan, fell to 14-3 and 9-2.

The loss snapped a seven-game winning streak by Logan.

Monday, the Warriors host Lake Land with a 6 p.m. tipoff time. This is a stand-alone men's game because the Lady Warriors do not have a game scheduled.
