No. 22 Lady Trailblazers win seventh in a row on the road at SWIC

BELLEVILLE, Ill. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers capped off their seventh win in a row and improved to 7-1 on the season with a 78-56 win at Southwestern Illinois Saturday evening.

Vincennes got off to a quick start, jumping ahead by seven at the end of the first quarter. VU again sped up the pace of play by using their press defense, which allowed the Blazers with many quick transition baskets off of steals.

VU's offense continued to roll in the second quarter as sophomore Shaila Beeler connected on three three's to help keep Vincennes on top 45-37 at the break.

Halftime did very little to cool down the Trailblazers' shooting attack, as VU opened up the third quarter on a 13-0 scoring run.

Sophomore Amani Brown came alive from behind the arc, connecting on four of eight shots from deep on her way to a team-high 21 points.

The fourth quarter saw the Trailblazers slow the tempo back down to help run some clock. VU's defense did not stop however, as SWIC was only able to score 10 points in the quarter and 19 in the entire second half.

Amani Brown led Vincennes with 21 points, 15 of which came in the second half, along with three rebounds and three assists.

Shaila Beeler finished with 18 points and nine assists, while also coming away with three steals in the game.

Alexis Radcliff was the third Trailblazer to reach double-figures, as she was the recipient of many Beeler assists on her way to 13 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

The win sets Hall of Fame head coach Harry Meeks at 698 career wins at Vincennes.

Vincennes will return to the floor Wednesday, March 3 when VU again hits the road, this time taking on No. 19 Wabash Valley. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. eastern.
