The Statesmen were competitive throughout Thursday (Nov. 10)'s non-conference contest at Illinois Central College, but ultimately came up a basket short in a 78-76 loss. Lincoln Trail was down just six points at halftime, 36-30, but found themselves down 66-50 in the second half. The Statesmen responded and finished the game on a 26-12 run, only to fall just short. The Statesmen shot 42 percent from the field for the game (28-67), including 18-42 from two-point range (43 percent) and 10-25 from three-point range (40 percent). Meanwhile, Illinois Central hit 46 percent of their field goal attempts (32-69), which included a 28-58 effort from inside the arc (48 percent) and a 4-11 performance from long distance (36 percent). Sam Mack Jr. led LTC with 29 points, six rebounds and two assists, while Bryant Givens posted 18 points, four assists, two rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot. Traveon Johnson contributed seven points, five assists, two rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot, Patrick Baxter totaled six points, nine rebounds, four steals, one assist and one blocked shot, Mike Beaty netted five points and two rebounds, Damon Gomes recorded four points, four assists, one rebound and one blocked shot, Jean-Michael Tine collected three points, six rebounds and two assists, Ferlandis Penny added two points, one rebound, one steal and one blocked shot and Nick Vazquez had two points and one assist. Brian Conway led Illinois Central with 14 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals, while also in double figures were Armon Williams with 13, Chris Bolden with 11 and Carson Cuevas with 10.
