Shields Reaches 4 Times, but Chargers Come Up Short vs. Vols

CARTERVILLE — Facing John A. Logan for the second consecutive day, the Carl Sandburg College baseball team dropped an 8-4 decision to the Volunteers on Tuesday afternoon.

Already up 4-1 in the fifth, the Volunteers extended their lead with a four-run inning that was ignited by back-to-back Chargers errors to open the frame.

Left fielder Jack Shields (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame) reached base four times for the Chargers, going 3 for 4 with a walk and a run scored. Shields singled in the third, drew a base on balls in the fifth, singled to left in the seventh and added another base hit in the ninth.
