Vols Sweep Final Non-Conference Weekend

Carterville, IL – The Logan Volunteers improve to 16-0 after sweeping Triton and Carl Sandburg over the weekend. The Vols would take down Triton 9-4 and Carl Sandburg 10-7 on Saturday and would follow suit on Sunday with 8-1 victory over Triton and finish the weekend with a 13-3 win over Carl Sandburg. Logan will open GRAC play this week when they travel to Lincoln Trail on Thursday and host Trail for a double header on Saturday.

Game 1 of the weekend saw the Vols use a balanced offensive attack, with the first seven batters in the Logan lineup collecting at least one hit for the game. Jack Ellis lead the way with two hits, while Ethan English would collect three RBI including his 3rd homerun of the season. On the mound the Vols would get a quality outing from Andrew Hoffmann, who would improve to 4-0 with a four inning, eight strike-out performance. Brodie Lenon would pick up his first save of the season, going three innings, while scattering two hits and striking out two.

In game 2 against Carl Sandburg, the Vols jumped out early scoring a run in the 1st and two in the 2nd thanks to a Tyler Acosta 2-out, 2-RBI double to give Logan a 3-0 early lead. The score would remain the same until a wild 5th inning that saw Carl Sandburg score seven unearned runs to take a 7-3 lead. The Logan bats would not let that deficit last long, storming back in the bottom half; picking up five runs on four hits, highlighted by doubles from Ethan English and Cameron Langston. Langston would come up big again in the 6th with a 2-run single to cap the scoring and give the Vols a 10-7 lead. Ian McMahon (1-0) would pick up the win in relief, going 1.1 innings not allowing a hit and striking out three. Ethan English would pitch a perfect 7th to pick up the save.

Sunday against Triton, saw the Vols rally around a complete game performance from Cameron Robinson on the mound. The Lousiville signee would go all seven innings, giving up an unearned run, while scattering four hits and striking out 12, to pick up his third win on the season. Jason Hodges would lead the offense going 3-3 and hitting his first homerun. Ryan Ritter, Ryan Hampe, and Michael Carey would all collect two hits apiece as well.

In the weekend finale the Vols would explode for 10 runs in the 5th to short game the Chargers 13-3. After Carl Sandburg would pick up a run in the first, Logan would answer in the bottom half collect three runs on back-to-back doubles from Ryan Ritter and Ryan Hampe, followed up by a sacrifice fly from Jason Hodges, to give the Vols a 3-1 lead. The Chargers would answer back capitalizing on some shaky defense to tie the game at 3. The score would hold until the 5th, when the Vols bats would come alive. Ethan English would leadoff the inning with a homerun, the next pitch Jason Hodges would double. After an RBI single from Cameron Langston, Cody Jansen would hit a 2-run shot to left. Six of the next eight batters would reach safely and the Vols would push across the final run on a wild pitch; with Jansen back up at the plate. Hunter Ralls got the start for Logan, going four innings, giving up three unearned runs on three hits, while striking out six and walking one, picking up a no-decision. Tommy Ray would pick up the win, throwing a clean 5th inning where he'd give up a hit and strike out two.
