Lady Runners drop two at the Sodexo Classic

Nov. 16 Vincennes University at Vincennes, Indiana

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners opened up their portion of the Sodexo Classic on Friday, Nov.16 with a 66-53 loss against Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers. Vincennes led by two points at halftime, before the Lady Trailblazers took control of the game outscoring SFCC by six points in the third quarter.

"It was a great game," said Lady Roadrunners Basketball Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "Our pressure defense worked well, but we continued to struggle with rebounding. We had a lot of turnovers in the game, most of them were uncontested, yet we still had chances to win the game. We made some strides against a good team."

Sophomore guard Jazzmyn Elston of Rossville, Georgia led SFCC in scoring with 13 points, while freshman guard Nokoia White of Ennis, Texas added 10 points. White also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Elston led the team in steals with two. Freshman guard Riana Lawson of Kansas City, Kansas dished out a team-high four assists.

Nov. 17 Wabash Valley College at Vincennes, Indiana

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners (3-4) fell to the 21st ranked Wabash Valley College Lady Warriors from Mount Caramel, Illinois 84-64 on Saturday, Nov. 17. The game was part of the Sodexo Classic.

"Wabash Valley is a very good - a complete team," said Bucher. "They shot the ball very well from beyond the arc and out rebounded us by 20 in this game.

Elston led three Lady Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 15 points. White contributed 12. Monique Esbrand of London, England pitched in with 11. Freshman forward Sahara Bamba of New York, New York pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. She also dished out a team-high two assists. Elston led the team in steals with three.
