The Pensacola State softball team played 6 games over the last five days and came out with a 5-1 record.

Over the weekend they hosted a variety of teams for the Pensacola Invitational. Pensacola kicked off the weekend with a 6-3 win over John A. Logan. Logan got on the board with one run in the top of the 1st, but PSC responded with two runs of their own courtesy of an RBI double from Kylee Crowder and an RBI single from Gabbie York.

Logan tied the game in the top of the third and again the Pirates responded right away in their half of the inning plating two runs to re-take the lead 4-2. Logan added a run in the fourth to pull within one, but Kylee Crowder blasted a 2-run home run in the bottom of the inning to round out all the scoring and PSC held on for the 6-3 win.

Crowder was 2-for-2 with a double, home run, two walk and three RBI. Abbie Morris and Samantha Ladowski were both 2-for-4.

Madison Sabo picked up the win throwing four innings with four strikeouts and two earned runs while Kylie Jarman got the save, throwing three innings with three strikeouts and only one hit.

In the second game on Friday the Pirates topped Itawamba 9-0 in six innings. Gabbie York knocked a 2-run home run over the left field fence to end the game early. She was 2-for-4 in the game with two runs scored, a double, home run and two RBI. Samantha Ladowski and Abbie Morris were both 2-for-3.

Yala Zwakman got her first win of the season throwing a complete game with six strikeouts and six hits.

Saturday kicked off with a 7-1 victory over Roane State. Kasey Markusic got things rolling in the bottom of the first with a triple that drove in two runs. The catcher had two triples in the game to go along with a walk and run scored. Abbie Morris was 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and two runs scored.

Madison Sabo threw a complete game only allowing four hits with eight strikeouts.

In the final game of the weekend the Pirates could not get anything going and fell 12-0 to John A. Logan.

Pensacola welcomed Mississippi Gulf Coast to town for a doubleheader on Tuesday.

In the first game Samantha Ladowski drove in the first run with a single up the middle in the 2nd. She was followed by a 3-run bomb from Karri Pritchard to make it 4-0. Marina Goins knocked a double and scored on a 2-run blast from Kylee Crowder to put PSC up 6-0. Pritchard hit another home run in the bottom of the fourth to put PSC up 7-1. The final score was 9-2.

Pritchard was 2-for-4 with two home runs, two runs scored and five RBI. Gabbie York was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI while Abbie Morris and Marina Goins both added two hits.

Madison Sabo threw six innings for the win and struck out five while scattering five hits. Kylie Jarman came on in the seventh to close out the game and retired the side.

The second game proved to be a closer affair as the Pirates won 3-2. They got off to a hot start as Karri Pritchard hit her third home run of the day to lead off the game. She was followed by solo home runs from Kylee Crowder and Gabbie York to give PSC a 3-0 lead.

With two outs in the top of the fifth the Bulldogs were threatening. They had two runners on with two outs when they drove a double to the fence. A quick relay from the defense cut down the batter at third to end the threat.

Yala Zwakman threw six innings and struck out nine to pick up the win and Kylie Jarman recorded the save when she closed out the game in the seventh.

Pensacola has a small break to recharge before they host Chattanooga State on Thursday, February 15th for a single game at 5:00 pm. Then they will travel to Gulf Shores to play on Friday and Saturday.
