Comments from head coach Cody Hastings after the game, "I'm extremely proud of these guys. We started slow, but once they settled into the game they competed their butts off. We held a lead for majority of the game, and when they cut it to 3 our guys just kept battling and pushed it back to double figures. That's a big improvement from previous weeks, and I'm glad to see the work they've been putting in pay off. The atmosphere was amazing. Both teams had a great crowd which made this a really fun game to be apart of. We have to get back to work and get ready for Itawamba Monday, but these guys definitely deserve a semi off day tomorrow."
ASU Mid-South's Je'Marion Westbrook got the scoring started as he would knock down a free throw, but the Saints would come back and quickly take a 5-1 lead. It would take both teams a little while to finally get their offense going, but on a Samuel Chapin 3 pointer with 12:40 remaining in the first half the Greyhounds would regain the lead for the remained of the game. The Greyhounds would push the lead to 12 with just under 6 minutes remaining in the half on a pair of free throws from Jesse Washington. ASU Mid-South would go on to take a 39-30 lead in halftime as Shawnee's KeSean Washington knocked down a shot just prior to the first half clock expiring.
Mid-South would get their scoring started off a beautiful feed from Dock to Washington for a corner 3. Both teams would continue to throw punches with the other team responding as they game would continue to go back and forth. The Saints would cut the lead to 3 with 9 minutes remaining in the half, but that's as close as the Saints would get as the Greyhounds would push it back to 7 in the next couple of minutes. Sophomore guard Chris Martin would go on to find Washington for his 5th 3 of the game with just under 2 minutes left in the game to give the Greyhounds a double digit lead that would ultimately ice the game for the home team.
The Greyhounds were led by Jesse Washington's 27 points shooting 5/9 from 3, followed by Samuel Chapin and Je'Marion Westbrook who both contributed 13. Kyrin Dock and Darren Wallace both chipped in 9 while Dock also had a game high 8 assists, and Wallace pulled down a team high 7 rebounds.
ASU Mid-South is back at home for their rematch with Itawamba from earlier this week on Monday, December 4th here at The Dog House. Tip-off is set for 7:30pm following the women's game at 5:30.
