Warrior baseball wins 8th consecutive Region title

On May 11th, the Wabash Valley College Warriors needed to win two games to win the Region XXIV Championship. After losing to Lincoln Trail on May 9th, the Warriors had a chance for redemption. Both teams entered Saturday with little pitching available, but the Warriors didn't worry as the bats were hot.

In game one, the Warriors racked up seventeen hits, with two of them being homeruns. AJ Malzone had a homerun for the Warriors, with Jon Legrande adding a grand slam. The grand slam came in the bottom of the seventh, with the Warriors winning 6-4. Legrande gave Wabash a 10-4 lead with the slam. Patrick Graham went 4-5 in game one, with all four hits being singles. Wabash Valley also tallied twelve walks in game one, on their way to routing Lincoln Trail 15-4

In game two, Wabash Valley added another twenty hits, with three of them being the long ball. Krew Bond and AJ Malzone had two of the three homeruns, while Jon Legrande added another grand slam. The second grand slam on the day for Legrande came in the bottom of the fifth inning, with the Warriors again leading 6-4. Legrande made it 10-4. He also added two more RBIs later in the game to give him 10 RBIs on the day. On the day, Legrande hit .545 by going 6-11 with two homeruns, three singles, and a triple. He also walked twice. AJ Malzone had a perfect day at the plate, as he went 7-7. Malzone had five singles and two homeruns to go with four walks and a hit-by-pitch.

The Warriors will look to keep the offense rolling when they take on Iowa Western this coming Wednesday, May 15th at 3pm in the Midwest District Tournament. Wabash Valley is hosting the Midwest District Tournament.
