DOTHAN, ALA. – The Wabash Valley softball team began its' southern swing on Tuesday with some big numbers on offense. The Lady Warriors swept a doubleheader from Wallace-Dothan by scores of 14-3 and 8-2.

On the day, Asa Deffendall's team scored 22 runs on 30 hits, against a Wallace-Dothan team that last year finished 62-11 with a fifth-place finish in the NJCAA tournament in St. George, Utah.

"We were pretty solid today," Deffendall said. "The offense took advantage of their opportunities."

Take the leadoff hitter, centerfielder Maci Simmons, for example. She was 5-for-10 at the plate, with a double and triple in the first game that produced 3 RBIs. Or, how about Maddie Duncan. Hitting third in the order, she smacked both home runs the Lady Warriors produced on the day, collecting four RBIs in the process.

In fact, it was the top of the batting order that fueled a fast getaway in the opener. WVC planted five runs in the top of the first inning, then added four runs in the fifth and five in the seventh to turn things into a rout.

The Lady Warriors did not trail in the second game either, scoring two runs in the second inning, and one more in the third before Wallace-Dothan (11-11) could get on the board.

However, the two runs they did score pulled the Lady Govs to within 3-2, before WVC sprinted away again with two runs each in the fourth sixth and a single tally in the seventh inning.

Lefty starter Lyndsi Adamson, a freshman from Gibson Southern, put together yet another impressive performance in the circle in Game 2. She tossed five innings, allowing only two unearned runs on two hits and three walks, while striking out five. Adamson is now 4-0, with the fourth-lowest ERA in the country, at 0.40. Duncan worked a scoreless two frames in the nitecap, to match her relief effort in the opener as well.

Kaitlyn Bennett (1-2) earned her first win of the year in Game 1. She went five innings, and did allow three runs. But she struck out five batters and issued only one walk.

WVC (6-2) has a travel day planned for Wednesday, as the team heads further south into the Florida panhandle. Thursday, the Lady Warriors play Calhoun, GA and the hosts at Northwest Florida State, before finishing the trip on Friday with a twinbill at 22nd-rated Pensacola State.
