Chargers’ Win Streak Snapped at 8 After Extra-Inning Loss

GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College baseball team banged out six home runs, but Southwestern Illinois rallied in the ninth and went ahead in the 10th to snap the Chargers' eight-game win streak Wednesday, handing the Chargers a 13-11 extra-inning loss at the Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex.

Key Moment
The Chargers (11-8) were two outs from a victory until the Blue Storm tied the game with a three-run homer in the ninth. SWIC then used a trio of Sandburg errors to plate a pair of runs in the 10th for the winning margin.
Sandburg Standout
Left fielder Jack Shields (Peoria Heights, Ill./Notre Dame) finished 3 for 5 with a pair of runs scored and three RBIs for the Chargers. Shields doubled in the second, hit the latter of back-to-back homers with Cam Scott (Mapleton, Ill./Illini Bluffs) in the third and singled in the fifth. Shields also reached on a fielder's choice in the seventh and came around to score.
