Mason Tallies 2 Hits in Chargers’ Loss at No. 11 Volunteers
CARTERVILLE — The Carl Sandburg College baseball team began a weekend trip to southern Illinois with an 11-1 loss in eight innings to Division I No. 11 John A. Logan on Friday.

KEY MOMENTS
• The Chargers (0-2) got on the board right away as Chase Mason singled with one away in the top of the first. Mason moved to second on a passed ball, reached third on a wild pitch and scored on a two-out single to center by Payton Hankins.
• The Volunteers went ahead in the bottom of the first as David Smith issued back-to-back two-out walks to load the bases before a grand slam by Trey Swiderski for a 4-1 John A. Logan lead.
SANDBURG STANDOUT
Mason added a single in the fifth as he finished 2 for 4 and the Chargers' lone run of the contest.
