The Marian Univeristy Ancilla Softball team opened their season Monday with a double-header at the FastPitch Dreams showcase in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Playing an entire cast of newcomers, it didn't help they were matched up with two of the better Division-I NJCAA schools in the Midwest. Below are some quick highlights of the action that took place in each of yesterday's contests.

GAME-1: The Chargers lost a tough one to Lincoln Trail College (IL), 11-0, in 6 innings. Freshman Samantha Hoffman (0-1) pitched all 6 innings for the Chargers, recording two scoreless innings before the Statesmen caught up with the bats. She also struck out 3 batters on the day. Freshman shortstop Alyssa Mulbarger, Freshman left fielder Justice Billingsley, and Freshman center fielder Kylee Heard each reached based once via single, with Billingsley swiping her first base of the year.

GAME-2: The second game wasn't much friendlier to the Chargers, as they faced a deep and talented Kankakee Cavalier team, this time falling 16-0 in 5 innings. Pitching depth will be a big issue for MUAC this season, and 14 walks didn't help matters against the Cavaliers. However, Justice Billingsley recorded the first strikeout of her career at any level, while Samantha Hoffman and Freshman Samantha Perry each reached base safely by way of singles. Freshman Abigail Heaston (0-1) was credited with the loss.

The Chargers are back in action tomorrow, Wednesday, March 6th, as they take on Southeastern Illinois College at 9:00 a.m. ET, followed by a matchup with Pennsylvania State University-Beaver at 1:00 p.m. ET. Good luck to the MUAC Softball team tomorrow!!
