Lakers Fall to SIC in Series Opener

Iowa Lakes hopped on the bus and traveled to Marion, Illinois to take on Southeastern Illinois College at Rent One BallPark. The Lakers struck first when Beau Sackett (Malcolm, Nebraska) laced a ball to right center for a triple and would score two pitches later on a passed ball making it 1-0 Iowa Lakes. SIC would capatalize on Laker mistakes and push three runs across in the first and second inning to give them a 3-1 lead heading into the top of the third. The Laker offense exploded for six runs. The inning was started by Beau Sackett who would reached on an infield single and was followed up by an Austen Daliet (New Orleans, Louisiana) triple over the centerfielder scoring Sackett from first base making it 3-2 SIC. Daliet would score on a missed popup by SIC allowing Ryan Mcean (Shelburne, Ontario) to get to first, and Mark Thornhill (Tallahassee, Florida) would draw making it first and second with still nobody out. Jalen Jones (Indianapolis, Indiana) would lay down a sac bunt advancing the runners up a base. Dean Bedell (Treynor, Iowa) would come up and get intentially walked to load the bases for Alex Pavon (Bellevue, Nebraska). Pavon would scortch a ball down the right field line for a triple to clear the bases making it 6-3 Iowa Lakes. The Lakers woud score one more run in the inning on a Marcus Pronay ( Innisfil, Ontario) fielders choice to extend the lead to 7-3. The Iowa Lakes Offense could not push anymore runs across the rest of the game as the pitching staff allowed 3 in the 3rd, 2 in the 4th, and 4 in the 5th to give SIC a 12-7 victory in game one. 

 

Jacob Gilbert (Wasilla, Alaska) took a no decision in his first collegiate start going three innings allowing three earned runs. Mitch Hoover (Sioux Falls, South Dakota) took the loss going 1 1/3 allowing 6 runs. Also making appreances were Sam Denker (Papillion, Nebraska) and Austin Charboneau (Idaho Falls, Idaho) who combined for 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
