Co-Lin goes 1-1 on opening day

WESSON, Miss. – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves started the 2019 season .500 after defeating Kaskaskia College 2-1 and falling to Panola College 7-3. Co-Lin racked up 11 hits on the day. Co-Lin is back in Wesson tomorrow, February 16 as the Wolves host Frontier College. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.

Game One

Co-Lin took the game away from Kaskaskia to open the 2019 season after plating two runs late. The Blue Devils pushed one across in the top of the fifth with a sac fly to deep center, but Co-Lin fired back in the bottom of the sixth. Clint Stephens and Trey Frierson posted two singles to put the Wolves in position. Stephens scored on a wild pitch to even the game at one all. Frierson scored later in the inning on a passed ball to put the Wolves on top.

Frierson went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Wolves in hits, while Josh Day, Stephens, and Austin Tidwell posted one.

Conner Ingram was lights out for the Wolves on the mound. He lasted seven innings, allowing five hits and one run while striking out seven and walking zero.

Game Two

Panola College took the lead early against the Wolves in game two as the Ponies plated two runs in the top of the second, third, and sixth inning to lead 6-0. Co-Lin scraped back into the game in the bottom of the sixth after Stephens led off with a single. Justin Johnson drove Stephens home with a single, and Ryan Zimmerman scored on a wild pitch after drawing a seven-pitch walk. Mark Hubbard, the next batter, scored Johnson on screaming ground ball to cut Panola's lead to 6-3. The Ponies pushed one more across in the top of the seventh to close the game out 7-3.

Austin Tidwell took the loss for Co-Lin. He surrendered six runs on six hits over six innings, striking out five and walking one, while Chad Dallas earned the win for Panola College. He surrendered zero runs on two hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out ten.

Johnson led Co-Lin at the plate with two hits in three at-bats with one RBI.
