Roadrunners Baseball Recaps March 2, 6 and 7

March 2 Southwestern Illinois College at GCS Ballpark Sauget, Illinois

The Roadrunners dropped their first game of the season to Southwestern Illinois College 7-2 at a neutral site.

Redshirt sophomore outfielder Tommy Ruether of Washington, Missouri, had a pair of hits and a run batted in. Freshman infielder Brandon Stahlman of Washington, Missouri, had a hit and a run scored. Freshman infielder/outfielder Jacob McWhirter of Guelph, Ontario, also had a hit and a run scored. Redshirt sophomore infielder Clayton Meyer of Sedalia also drove in a run.

Sophomore pitcher Antonio Escano of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, got the start on the mound for the Roadrunners. He pitched three innings and gave up four runs, on three hits, and struck out six. He was given the pitching loss.

March 6 Indian Hills Community College at Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field

SFCC finally opened the home portion of their 2021 schedule dropping a pair of games 6-5 and 20-2 to Indian Hills Community College.

The Roadrunners comeback attempt in game one came up short. Freshman catcher/pitcher Zachary Dillman of Lee's Summit had three hits, including a pair of doubles to go along with an RBI and a run scored. Ruether also had a double. Stahlman had a pair of hits.

Sophomore Jared Stephens of Neosho got the start on the mound for the Roadrunners. Stephens pitched six innings, giving up four runs on five hits. He struck out four and earned the no decision. Sophomore Peyton Seiz of Holden pitched two-thirds of an inning and gave up two runs on one hit. He was given the pitching loss.

In game two, the SFCC offense was held to three hits as a team. McWhirter and Stahlman each recorded a double. Freshman infielder Brayden McGinnis of Concordia had a hit in the game. Freshman infielder Austin Warkins of Haysville, Kansas, drove in a run, along with redshirt sophomore infielder Seth Kamykowski of Buffalo. Freshman infielder Brandon Green of Okotoks, Alberta, and freshman outfielder Drake Miller of Camdenton scored a run each.

Sophomore pitcher Connor Barnes of Boonville got the start on the mound for SFCC. He pitched 1 1/3 innings and gave up 10 runs, seven of which were earned and was given the pitching loss.

March 7 Indian Hills Community College at Liberty Park Stadium-Dey Field

SFCC (5-5) dropped a pair of games 4-0 and 14-2 to Indian Hills Community College.

In game one, the SFCC offense was held to only five hits, including a double from Kamykowski. Stahlman, Meyer, Warkins, and McWhirter each had a hit for SFCC.

Sophomore pitcher Andrew Clark of Belton got the start on the mound for SFCC. He pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed three runs on six hits and struck out three. Clark took the loss on the mound for SFCC.

In game two, Ruether and Green drove in a run each. Green also scored a run in the game along with McWhirter.

Sophomore pitcher Rylie Rokusek of Holden got the start on the mound for SFCC. Rokusek pitched 3 1/3 innings, gave up six runs, only three of which were earned on eight hits and struck out two batters. He was given the pitching loss.
