WESSON – The Co-Lin Baseball team played host to Rend Lake on Sunday, February 18. The Wolves and Warriors split the doubleheader at Sullivan Field with the Wolves taking game one, 8-3, while the Warriors took game two, 3-2, in nine innings.

GAME ONE

The Wolves got on the board with a solo run in the bottom of the first inning as Brayden Bankston (Terry) hit a leadoff double and later scored on a fielder's choice by Dylan Wesson giving the Wolves a 1-0 lead.

The Warriors then took advantage of a leadoff walk in the top of the second to tie the game, 1-1. However, the Wolves responded with a big six-run bottom half of the inning as Christian Cameron led off the inning reaching base on an error. Cameron then scored on an RBI double by Spencer Wilson giving the Wolves a 2-1 lead. Bankston then singled while Brentley Berry (Magee) drew a walk to load the bases with no outs. Tucker Jones (Brandon) was then hit by pitch scoring Wilson while Bankston and Berry scored on a two-RBI double by Jon David Weed (Terry) increasing the Wolves lead to 5-1. Back-to-back RBI groundouts by Dylan Wesson (Brandon) and Sam Cook (Shubuta) scored Jones and Weed respectively and pushed the Wolves lead to 7-1.

The Wolves added their final run in the bottom of the fourth as Wesson reached on an error and then later scored on an RBI single by Jordan McKenzie (Franklinton, LA) giving the Wolves an 8-1 lead.

The Warriors then looked to have a big inning of their own in the fifth after a two-RBI single cut the lead down to 8-3, but the Wolves turned to Judson Griffin (Brookhaven) out of the bullpen, and he slammed the door shut on the inning by getting a flyout followed by a walk and then a strikeout and groundout to maintain the Wolves lead.

The Warriors then got just one baserunner in the final two innings as the Wolves secured the 8-3 win.

Brayden Bankston led the Wolves going 3-for-4 at the plate while Jordan McKenzie and Spencer Wilson had two hits apiece with Brentley Berry, Tucker Jones, JD Weed, and Sam Cook adding one hit each. Weed and Dylan Wesson led the Wolves in RBIs with two apiece while Jones, Cook, McKenzie, and Wilson had one RBI each.

GAME TWO

The Warriors then took advantage of a hit by pitch in the top of the fourth to score a solo run and tie the game at 1-1. However, the Wolves regained the lead with a solo run in the bottom half of the inning as Jordan McKenzie led off by reaching base on an error and advanced to third on the play. McKenzie then scored on a sacrifice fly by Sam Cook giving the Wolves a 2-1 lead.

The Warriors once again tied the game, this time taking advantage of a leadoff walk, in the top of the fifth to score one run and make the score, 2-2. The Warriors then stifled the Wolves offense allowing just three baserunners in the fifth through seventh innings combined. The game then went into extra innings after finishing tied at the end of the seventh. Neither team pushed a run across in the eighth while the Warriors took the lead in the ninth with a solo run while taking advantage of a throwing error by the Wolves on a stolen base to take a 3-2 lead.
