Baseball Picks Up Two Wins in Myrtle Beach Trip

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Anne Arundel Community College baseball team wrapped up its four-day spring training trip at The Ripken Experience Saturday. The Riverhawks won a pair of games of the five-game slate, defeating Rowan College at Burlington County and Suffolk Community College.

AACC opened the trip Thursday, February 27, with losses to Olney Central College (13-1) and Brunswick Community College (16-2). Against Olney, Daniel Stern drove in the lone run with a triple. Against Brunswick, EJ Santana drove in a pair of runs, including a solo home run to lead off the game.

On Friday, February 28, AACC dealt Rowan College at Burlington County, 7-4. AACC recorded five extra-base hits including home runs from Patrick Mason, Lennie Lehner, and doubles from Lehner, Cam Rees, and Tripp Templeton.  Bradley Zoellner earned the win in five innings of work, allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits while striking out three and walking five. Matt Johnson picked up the save with a pair of strikeouts and one hit over the final two innings.

In the first game of the next day, AACC scored four runs in the fourth and fended off a late Suffolk comeback attempt in a 6-5 win. Zachary Rees went the distance for his first win of the season, striking out six and allowing nine hits. Lehner, Templeton, and Gavin Umphries hit home runs in the game.

In the nightcap, Jon Alderman drove in a run in the top of the first, but Monroe Community College scored 23 runs over the first four innings en route to a 23-2 win. Templeton drove in AACC's second run with a double in the top of the fifth.

The Riverhawks stole 13 bases during the trip, led by three each from Jaden Jones and Alderman. Daniel Stern, Lehner, and Templeton each had two.

AACC is back in action on Tuesday, March 4th in a 3 pm doubleheader in Bel Air, Md.
