BOX SCORE NOTE: Kirkwood stats only. No live/official statistics provided due to technical reasons at State Fair CC.

Your Kirkwood Women's Basketball team kicked off the 2023-24 season Friday against John A. Logan in the McDonald's Classic at State Fair Community College in Sedalia, Missouri. Entering this season, Kirkwood was ranked #2 nationally in the NJCAA polls and looked to back-up the ranking in front of Kirkwood.

With an early afternoon tip-off and emotions high for the 1st game of the season, both teams were looking to find a good flow. After the first 10 minutes, Kirkwood had the edge by a score of 19-12. In the second quarter, things started clicking for the Eagle offense, rattling off 23 points and holding John A. Logan to only 11 points. At halftime, Kirkwood sat comfortably with a 19-point lead. The momentum Kirkwood built up in the first half carried over into the third quarter. Offensively, it started to get cold for the Eagles but tenacious defense allowed the team to hold John A. Logan to only 7 points extending the Kirkwood lead to 27. In the 4th quarter, Coach Muhl was able to go deeper into his bench knowing he had an opportunity to put key reserves in a battle test with John A. Logan in desperation mode to trim the lead. But the Eagles would prevail, winning the quarter 16-15, and winning the game 73-45 to secure the first win of the season.

Kirkwood Women's Basketball had contributions all over in the win. Three Eagles saw double-digit scoring – Ellah Kissell (12), Jenna Twedt (12), and Kaylee Corbin (17). Kirkwood shared the ball well, recording 24 assists on 40 made field goals for the game, for a 1.8 Assist-Turnover Ratio. Z Evans had the hot-hand from beyond the arc, going 2-3 from 3.
