Falcons Sweep Lakers

Iowa Lakes and SIC showed up to Rent One Ballpark to finish the three games series with a double header on Saturday. The Lakers struck first with Beau Sackett (Malcolm, Nebraska) drawing a leadoff HBP setting the tone. Austen Daliet (New Orleans Louisiana) would tattoo a ball in the left center gap and would leg it out for a triple and Ryan Mclean (Shelburne, Ontario) would hit a fly ball to left field to make it 2-0 Lakers. The Falcons would respond with three runs of their own in the second inning to give them a 3-2 lead going into the third. The Iowa Lakes offense could not push any runs across the rest of the game, while the Falcons tacked on an additional run in the 5th inning to take game one 4-2. 

Jacob Buffington (Bogart, Georgia) suffered the loss in game 2 of the series going 4 2/3 innings giving up 4 hits and 4 runs (2 earned) while striking out 3. Arturo Gil (San Luis, Arizona) came in and allowed 0 runs in 1 1/3 innings while striking out 1. 

The back half of the doubleheader for the Lakers started out the same way with the Lakers scoring two runs in the first. Mclean got ahold of an inside fastball and sent it into the right center gap allowing him to reach third for a triple. Mark Thornhill (Tallahassee, Florida) would put a ball past a diving second basemen to score Mclean for a RBI single. Beck Anshutz (Des Moines, Iowa) would hit a ground ball to third base but he would air mail it into the outfield allowing Thornhill to score from first base giving Iowa Lakes a 2-0 lead. SIC would have an inning of their own scoring four runs in the bottom half of the second making it 4-2 going into the third inning, and would add on five more runs in the bottom of the 5th to make it 9-2 Falcons. The Laker offensive attack was quiet up until the top of the 7th when the bats woke up scoring seven runs. The inning started with a Andrew Eskens (Lincoln, Nebraska) double over the centerfielder's head to get things going and Marcus Pronay (Innisfil, Ontario) would reach first on a hit by pitch. Jimmy Mapakou (Vauréal, Île-de, France) would get ahold of a ball to centerfield and reach third for a triple to score Eskens and Pronay from first which would cut the score to 9-4. Daliet would hit a RBI groundout to 3rd base to make the score 9-5. Mclean would then stay hot with a base hit right up the middle to keep the Laker hopes alive. Thornhill would wear of pitch the thigh and reach first base giving Iowa Lakes runners on first and second. Anshutz would single to left field scoring Mclean and cutting the lead to 9-6. Alex Pavon (Bellevue, Nebraska) would draw a walk to load the bases up for Dean Bedell (Treynor, Iowa) who connected on a ball to right center field. The SIC outfielders booted the ball while colliding to score all three runners on base tying the game at 9-9. SIC would then get the leadoff guy on and would capatalize on it with a RBI single to left field to win game three 10-9. 

Jacob Myer (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) got the ball in game 3 going 4 innings allowing 6 hits and 4 runs while striking out 5 and walking none. Frankie Cresta (Johnston, Iowa) struggled allowing 5 runs in a long 5th inning without recording an out. Lucas Gardner (Estherville, Iowa) came in and struck out 2 while going scoreless. Then Will Dowell (Normal, Illinois) suffered the tough luck loss to drop the series 3 games to 0 after a furious comeback.
