DMACC volleyball team goes 2-2 in Parkland College Classic

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball team put together a 2-2 record while competing in the Parkland College Classic September 27 and 28 at Champaign, Ill.

 

The split gives DMACC a 10-11 record for the season.

 

The Bears opened the tournament with a 3-2 loss to McHenry Community College (MCC) and then defeated Rock Valley Community College (RVCC) with both matches being played on Sept. 27. The final day of the tournament saw DMACC defeat Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC), 3-2, and then drop a 3-0 decision to Illinois Central College (ICC), the ninth-ranked team in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll.

 

Sophomore Amber Dilsaver and sophomore Kyla Green of Elizabeth, Colo., had 16 and 15 kills respectively as DMACC fell to MCC, 25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 17-25, 16-18. Dilsaver hit .313 in the match, getting her 16 kills from 32 attacks with six hitting errors. Green hit .184 with her 15 kills coming from 38 attacks with eight hitting errors.

 

As a team, the Bears hit .255 with 58 kills coming from 169 attacks with 20 hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Cailey Schaa of Council Bluffs led DMACC in assists with 47, sophomore Kyra Ikeda of Cedar Rapids had four ace serves and freshman Delaney Kelley of Rock Island, Ill., added three. Freshman Dakota Miles of Dallas Center led the Bears in digs with 26. Freshman Darian Gray of Mechanicsville had 20 and freshman Jordan Neely of Tiffin had 13. Freshman Katelyn Courtney of Ames led DMACC in blocks with five, including four block assists.

 

Dilsaver had 12 kills, hit .296 and added two ace serves as the Bears handed RVCC a 25-15, 25-21, 25-21 loss. Her 12 kills came from 27 attacks with four hitting errors.

 

DMACC hit .115 in the win, getting 35 kills from 130 attacks with 20 hitting errors.

 

Schaa led the Bears in assists with 28 and Miles came away with a team-high 23 digs. Schaa had 15 digs and Neely added 12. Dilsaver and Courtney had three block assists apiece.

 

Gray's 17 kills, 12 by Dilsaver and 10 from freshman Eryn Anderson of Houghton led DMACC to a 16-25, 25-14, 25-19, 21-25, 15-10 win over SWIC. Gray hit .390 in the win getting her 17 kills from 41 attacks with just one hitting error. The Bears came away with a .192 hitting percentage, getting 54 kills from 193 attacks with 17 hitting errors.

 

Schaa contributed 46 assists and 20 digs to the win and Gray added a pair of ace serves. Miles finished with a team-high 32 digs, Gray had 17, Ikeda finished with 15 and Neely had 14. Dilsaver, Kelley and Anderson had six blocks apiece, including five block assists from Kelley, four from Anderson and three by Dilsaver.

 

Dilsaver had nine kills and Courtney came away with seven in a 20-25, 17-25, 15-25 loss to ICC. The Bears hit just .064 with 28 kills coming from 109 attacks with 21 hitting errors.

 

Schaa again led the way in assists with 28 and Kelley added a pair of ace serves. Miles had 22 digs, Gray added 12 and Schaa and Courtney had three blocks apiece.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will host Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) on Oct. 2. Match time is 6:30 p.m. The Bears are 2-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). ILCC is 4-17 overall and 1-3 in the ICCAC.
