Ottumwa -- Indian Hills didn't take the lead for good until around the four-minute mark, then got key plays down the stretch from sophomores Chris Childs and Tyon Grant-Foster and freshman Tyrese Nickelson as they pulled away from John A. Logan for a 72-63 victory at the Hellyer Center Saturday night.

The No. 6-ranked Warriors trailed 4th-rated JAL the entire first half and the visiting Volunteers took a 32-23 lead into intermission.  IHCC caught the Vols at 41-all at the 11-minute mark on a 3-pointer by Grant-Foster and took their first lead moments later when Maurice Calloo made a free throw.  There were four lead changes over the next three minutes and the score was tied twice.  Maybe the biggest bucket of the night came with the game even at 48-all.  Calloo's slam dunk attempt banged off the back of the rim, right to Childs at the top of the key.  Childs didn't hesitate in burying a three.  John A. Logan came back to tie the score two more times, before Nickelson dropped in two free throws to give IHCC the lead for good.

That started a 7-0 run with Nickelson supplying all the points. Then, after a Volunteer foul shot, Childs pumped in six points over the final 1:33 and the Warriors claimed their second straight win to start the season.

Nickelson had all 13 of his points in the second half.  Childs had nine after halftime.  And Grant-Foster, for the second straight game, had a monster second half.  The talented soph got in foul trouble in the first half, but came out with a vengeance in the second period, scoring 22 of his game-high 24.  That total included four 3-pointers, including three in a row in one stretch.

John A. Logan stifled the IHCC offense in the first half.  They went ahead 20-10 after a Mark Lancaster field goal and took the nine-point lead to the locker room on a three by Eric Boone.

Malique Jacobs got the Warriors' first two field goals of the second period, and Grant-Foster hit four baskets, including a three to help forge a tie.  

Foster followed up his career-best 26 point effort the night before with 24.  Jalen Johnson paced JAL with 14.

John A. Logan had dropped an 87-79 decision to Otero JC Friday night so they left Ottumwa with an 0-2 mark.  The Warriors take their 2-0 record to Sedalia, Mo., next weekend for the Iowa-Missouri Challenge.  IHCC meets Three Rivers CC Friday and State Fair on Saturday night.
