Lady Tribs Split on Day 2 in Myrtle Beach, Improving to 3-1 on the Spring '24 Campaign
MYRTLE BEACH S.C. – The Monroe Community College Tribunes were looking to extend their win streak to four games against Olney Central College. During this game, the Tribunes hit a road bump and fell to 3-1 on the season, losing 13-5, here's how it played out.
Carly Sobaszek got the scoring going early in the second inning with an RBI single. Later in that inning, MCC extended the lead to 2-0. Becca Minor tied the game at 2 apiece with a two-run double. Olney put up two more runs that inning. MCC tied the game at 4 in the bottom half of the fourth. Olney scored 8 runs in the top of the fourth to blow the game open. The Tribunes fought back and put up 3 runs but ultimately lost 13-5.
Nikki Namisniak was on the mound for this one. She didn't have her best outing pitching but went 3-3 at the plate which included a triple. Namisniak pitched 5 and 2/3 innings giving up 7 earned runs. Carly Sobaszek went 2-3 at the dish which provided some pop in the middle of the Tribunes lineup.
Becca Minor and Brooklyn Garrett each had a double in the game. And Carli Hosler drove in a run on a single. Maya Rodriguez-Mansholt drew two walks and hit a round-tripper in today's contest. The Blue Knights were led by Morgan Kehl on the mound who pitched 2 innings giving up 3 earned runs.
GAME TWO:
The Monroe Community College Tribunes faced off against Vermont State – Lyndon in their third game of the season. With momentum building in the first two games, the Tribunes looked to carry it into this matchup. The Tribunes beat the Hornets by a score of 9-1 in 6 innings.
Isabella Giorgione began the seven-run rally in the third inning with a two-RBI single. Amanda Linnenbrink doubled and scored two more runs. Brooklyn Downey singled which scored two runs and a third was scored because of an error. Amanda Linnenbrink was sensational on the mound once again. She threw her third complete game of the season and earned her third victory of the season.
For Monroe Community College, Morgan Brozak went 3-3 while Linnenbrink helped herself out by driving in the most runs out of all of the Tribunes. Ashley Simons and Nikki Namisniak each collected multiple hits. Namisniak also finished with a game-high 7 assists from shortstop.
Bailey Quire led the Hornets in hits, collecting 3 in 3 at-bats. Lindsey Gannon knocked in the only run for the Hornets. Victoria Valentine was able to collect two hits in 3 at-bats for Vermont State-Lyndon.
Monroe CC will play their next game against Southeastern Illinois College at 11 am on Sunday, March 3.
