FORT MYERS, Fla.- If you are an opposing pitcher and you see the #3 Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers on your upcoming schedule, you might want to schedule a sick day.  The Bucs offensive assault continued on Thursday as they put together two more run rule victories with 13-1 and 10-2 wins over Lincoln Trail to improve to 23-2 on the year.  

 

After arriving at City of Palms Park late for the game, the Statesmen wasted no time in jumping in front of the Bucs early on 1-0 with a run in the top half of the 1st.  

 

It didn't take long for the Bucs to get that one back and a little more in the bottom of the inning.  Lindsey Corbin, Natavia Ellis, and Feline Poot cracked three straight RBI doubles to put FSW in front 3-1 and a Taylor Jensen single up the middle made it a 4-1 ballgame.  Later in the frame Owen Bowers singled to right to drive home two more and Corbin blasted off on her second extra base hit of the inning, this time a three run bomb to left to give FSW a 10-1 lead. They weren't done yet.  Poot's second RBI double of the inning made it 11-1 and before it was over the Bucs added a 12th run to the mix to make it 12-1 FSW after one inning of play.  FSW sent 18 batters to the plate in the inning, finishing the frame with 11 hits including five for extra bases.  

 

Things quieted down from there as the Bucs actually didn't manage another hit until the 4th inning when a single from Lexi Moore and a double from Bowers followed by a groundout made it a 13-1 game which is how it finished after five in run rule fashion.

 

Corbin, Poot, Moore, and Bowers all had two hits for the Bucs.  Corbin finished with four RBIs, while Poot had two doubles and two RBIs and Bowers added a two bagger and pair of RBIs.  

 

Sarah Clontz went the distance in the circle for the Bucs, improving to 5-0 on the year allowing just five hits and one run while striking out four.  

 

 

In game two it was the Bucs that struck first as Ellis singled home a run after Corbin tripled with one out to give FSW a quick 1-0 advantage.  Later in the inning Moore squeezed home a run, giving the Bucs a 2-0 lead after one inning of play.  

 

The Statesmen struck back with a solo home run in the 2nd to cut the Buc lead to 2-1 and got another solo blast in the 4th to knot the score up at 2.  

 

The game didn't stay tied long.  The first six hitters of the Bucs half of the 4th reached base with RBI blows coming from Rebeca Laudino, Jensen, and Ellis to quickly make it 7-2 FSW.  The continued their onslaught, scoring two more with two outs on a single from Bowers to stretch their lead to 9-2 after four innings of play.  

 

After a 1-2-3 top of the 5th for reliever Alyssa O'Donnell, the Bucs finished things off in the bottom half as Ellis doubled with one out and scored on a bloop single from Pallas Potter to kick in the eight run rule with FSW winning 10-2.  

 

The Bucs outhit the Statesmen 10-2 in the win, getting three hits and three RBIs from Ellis and two hits and two runs scored from Corbin to lead the way.  Emily Perrin earned the win in the circle, going four innings, allowing two hits and two runs while striking out five to improve to 3-0 on the year.  

 

 

FSW improves to 23-2 with the sweep and has now scored 63 runs in their last five games (22 innings).  Lincoln Trail falls to 3-12 on the year before returning home to Illinois.  

 

The Bucs will now enjoy a week long break before taking the field again on Thursday, March 12th in Davie where they take on Broward in a non-conference doubleheader.
