Korte’s Tiebreaking HR in 6th Sends Chargers to 1st Win of Season

HARRISBURG — Logan Korte (Metropolis, Ill./Massac County) hit two home runs, including a tiebreaking blast in the sixth inning, to lift the Carl Sandburg College baseball team to its first victory of the season with a wild 16-15 comeback win Saturday at Southeastern Illinois.

Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader between the Chargers and Falcons was suspended after four innings because of darkness with Southeastern Illinois ahead 11-4. The game will be completed March 16 prior to the teams' game scheduled for that day in Harrisburg. Sandburg (1-2) closed its season-opening weekend trip with a 19-1 loss Sunday against Kankakee in Carterville.

• Southeastern Illinois regained the lead with a three-run bottom of the fourth, but the Chargers tied it again on the strength of a two-run shot by Chase Mason (Washington, Ill./Washington) and a solo blast from Mitch Ball (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria).
