Cyclones split two

Cyclones split two

In their next set of spring training games, the Cyclones couldn't escape some errors but still ended the day splitting two.

Moraine Valley tacked on its sixth consecutive win, going 7-3 over Rend Lake College (IL). The offensive attack and pitching prowess kept the Cyclones ahead in this game. Mariah Martinez earned the win, allowing just three runs and giving up only one earned run on two hits. Karly Krown relieved Martinez in the fifth for a flawless finish and the save. The defense was unsteady, committing four errors, but the offense lifted the team. Madi Davis (2-for-3, 2 RBIs, double), Lex Leighton (2-for-4), Fran Beggs (2-for-4, RBI) and Abbie Wantroba (2-for-3, 2 RBIs) continued their hot hitting while Marissa Faletti and Donna Booe (RBI) each chipped in one. For the first time on the trip, the Cyclones saw themselves down when Rend Lake scored in the top of the first on two errors. The bats came alive, however, and by the bottom of the second the Cyclones were up 6-1. With their speed, Faletti and Leighton pulled off another successful double steal before Davis scored both. Beggs then batted in Booe to cap the fourth.

A few errors and a talented Kaskaskia College (IL) lent itself to the Cyclones' first loss. The Blue Angels had a combined 19 hits coupled with a few Cyclone errors that led to six unearned runs in the six inning romp. Moraine Valley led the game 4-0 after the first inning after Wantroba added two more RBIs to her tally with a single before Beggs scored on an errant throw. Zoe Supanich then followed with an RBI single to center to make it 4-0. Kaskaskia tied the game in the bottom of the second before taking a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the fourth on a costly error. The fifth inning was ripped open by six Blue Angel runs, but the Cyclones could only answer with one more run in the sixth thanks to a leadoff double from Brianna Dvorak. She scored on Faletti's RBI ground out to second. Kaskaskia scored two more in the bottom of the sixth to end the game in run rule. Liz McCuan had a rough outing on the hill, allowing 12 runs (six earned) on 18 hits. Krown came in relief, but couldn't stop the Blue Angels in the 13-5 loss.
