McLennan Softball splits pair of games in Louisiana
The McLennan Softball squad split today's pair of games at the Chipola Invitational in Youngsville, Louisiana.
McLennan fell to the Lake Land Lakers 10-3 in the first game of the day.
Lake Land scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead. Emily Graver drew a walk and Rachel Kaufman singled. Kaitlyn Scheitler followed with a single to score Graver. Krysten Darrough then singled to score Kaufman. Kali Husman drew a walk, loading the bases. Abrienne Lee was hit by the pitch, bringing Scheitler in to score. Grace McDowell replaced Lee to pinch run. Natalie Gordan was also hit by the pitch, scoring Darrough. Frankie Izard then singled to score Husman and McDowell.
The Lakers added three runs in the third. Husman was safe on an error and scored on a double by Lee. Gordan followed with a triple to score Lee. Graver then singled to score Gordan.
All three of McLennan's runs came in the top of the fourth. Sophie Wideman drew a lead-off walk and was replaced by pinch runner Jasmine Garcia. Lindsey Evans followed with a single. Jessika Truax hit a fielder's choice, loading the bases. Melayna Lopez hit into a double play, leaving Evans at second and Truax on first. Kadyn Trochim then singled to load the bases. Bekah Parks walked to score Evans. Rebeca Fajardo then singled to score Truax and Trochim.
Lake Land rounded out the scoring with a run in the fifth. Izard singled and moved to second on a ground out by Graver. Kaufman then singled to score Izard.
McLennan bounced back to defeat the Odessa Lady Wranglers 16-5 in the second game.
McLennan scored a fun in the top of the first. Cydney DeLeon and Arianna Perales both singled. Wideman followed with a single to score DeLeon.
Odessa took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the first. Kaitlyn Reinecke walked and Madi Scott was hit by the pitch. Both runners scored on a double by Illy Cisneros.
McLennan broke the game open with nine runs in the second. Lopez and Maddie Stephens both singled, and Genesis Rodriguez walked to load the bases. DeLeon was hit by the pitch, bringing Lopez in to score. Perales then singled to score Stephens and Rodriguez. Evans followed with a three-run homer. Parks and Mackenzie Adams both singled, and Parks stole home. Lopez walked and Stephens doubled to score Adams and Lopez.
The Lady Wranglers added two runs in the bottom of the second as Monique Pando doubled and Reinecke walked. Both runners scored on a single by Cisneros.
Another McLennan run scored in the top of the third as DeLeon singled, moved to third on an error and scored on a single by Wideman.
Odessa added a run in the third as Becca Duran doubled and scored on a double by Pando.
McLennan sealed the win with five runs in the fourth. Parks singled and Adams hit a fielder's choice. Both runners stole a base. Lopez was then safe at first on a dropped third strike. Stephen's hit a fielder's choice, putting Parks out at home. Rodriguez then grounded out, bringing Adams in to score, and DeLeon singled to score Lopez and Stephens. Perales and Wideman both singled, bringing DeLeon in to score. Evans then doubled to score Perales.
McLennan will round out the slate of Louisiana games against Chipola at 11 a.m. Sunday.
