DJ Brewton gives No. 15 Trailblazers win at Shawnee with three at the buzzer

ULLIN, Ill. – Trailblazer sophomore DJ Brewton helped put the team on his back at then of Saturday afternoon's VU win at Shawnee, scoring Vincennes' last five points including racing down the court to hit a buzzer beating three to give No. 15 Vincennes the 69-66 win.

The first half was a game of scoring runs, with Shawnee taking the lead on a 6-0 scoring run, only for the Trailblazers to match with a 7-2 run to retake the lead, followed by the Saints answering back again with an 8-0 run to put Shawnee up 20-14 midway through the first.

Shawnee held their lead throughout the rest of the first half, heading into the locker room ahead 34-28 over Vincennes.

VU came out of the locker room playing with much more intensity as a corner three by Brandon Muntu gave Vincennes the lead back at 41-39.

The Trailblazers would lead by as many as six in the second half but VU could not seem to put Shawnee away late.

Vincennes led by three with 10 seconds to play after DJ Brewton hit a pair of clutch free throws.

The Saints would answer by hitting a corner three on an inbounds play at the other end to even the score with 4.5 second to go.

Vincennes inbounded the ball to Brewton who raced down the floor to hit a three at the buzzer over two defenders to give the Trailblazers the 69-66 win.

Vincennes was led offensively by John Ukomadu who finished with 12 points, eight of which came in the first half and a team-high eight rebounds.

DJ Brewton finished with 11 points, eight of which coming in the second half, on a perfect three of three shooting from behind the arc.

Brevin Jefferson reached double-figures with 10 points, all in the second half, while also finding open shooters all game from the point guard spot on his way to a team-high seven assists.

Justin Archer and Brandon Muntu finished with eight points, with Archer grabbing six rebounds. Randy Tucker ended his day with seven points and four rebounds.

The Trailblazers will return home to the P.E. Complex Wednesday, March 24 when VU hosts Lewis & Clark.

Vincennes won the matchup at Godfrey, Ill. earlier this season 84-61. Tip-off Wednesday is schedule for 7 p.m. eastern.
