VU 93 SWIC 81

            Third-ranked Vincennes completed the first-round of District 16 play undefeated after a 93-81 home win over No. 25 Southwestern Illinois.

            The Blue Storm (7-2, 14-3), had the first half momentum, leading by as many as six points, 27-21, before the foul-plagued Trailblazers grabbed a 40-38 edge.

            Brad Firtzjerrells' last-second trey gave SWIC a 41-40 lead at the break, only the fourth time Vincennes had trailed at halftime this season.

            Isaiah Tisdale's 16 first half points, and three treys by Ty Gadsden and a couple of inside baskets by Nikola Andric helped VU stay close in the first 20 minutes.

            Vincennes (10-0, 20-0) bolted out of the gate in the second half with a 15-6 run.

            Gadsden scored on a drive, then connected on three consecutive 3-pointers. Lony Francis followed with a fast-break bucket to give VU a 55-47 lead.

            Gadsden scored 21 of his personal-best 30 points in the second half while Tisdale finished with 19. Hugh Mbumba and George Dixon shared post-time in the final 20 minutes combining for 20 points, 11 and nine respectively. Dixon pulled down all nine of his rebounds in the second half.

            Jalaam Hill led SWIC with 23 points. Oliver Stephens had 17, Fitzgerrells 13 while Destan Williams scored 11.
