LOGAN SOFTBALLERS DROP TWO TO OLNEY

CARTERVILLE - The John A. Logan College softball team dropped a pair of games at home Thursday to Olney Central College, 10-2 and 10-9.

"The pitching wasn't good either game and the defense wasn't good enough overall," said JALC first-year head coach Angie Jilek. "Olney exploited some of our weaknesses today."

In the opener, freshman second baseman Jordyn Smith (Massac County High School grad) popped two solo home runs, but that would be virtually all the offense in this game for the Vols.

The only other player to record a hit was freshman third baseman Lauren Talton, who singled.

Losing pitcher was sophomore Jennifer Bailey. The Troy native allowed all 10 runs (seven earned) on 17 hits. She struck out five and walked four.

In Game 2, freshman hurler Nicole Short was pitcher of record for the Vols. She allowed eight earned runs of the 10 that scored on 12 hits, struck out five, and walked three.

Sophomore outfielder Kelsey Rogers went 3-4 with a three-run homer. Sophomore catcher/outfielder Katrina Whitley was 3-3 with a two-run homer.

Smith notched three additional hits. Kiley Pelker and Megan Hampton contributed two hits apiece and Talton added one.

Logan falls to 15-9 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference and 25-13 overall. They will travel to Lincoln Trail College for a doubleheader on Saturday and then host Southeastern Illinois on Sunday beginning at 1.
