The Wabash Valley College Lady Warriors continued their shooting woes Monday night against the Volunteer State Lady Pioneers, and dropped a 101-70 decision.

WVC hit only 12 of 36 first-half shots from the floor, 33.3 percent, including just two of seven from three-point range, 28.6 percent. The Lady Warriors free throw shooting, however, was respectable at six of eight for 75 percent.

Volunteer State, however, hit 21 of 37 from the floor, 56.8 percent, including six of 12 from beyond the arc, 50 percent.

Volunteer State built a 54-32 halftime lead.

Montrell Mills led WVC in the first half with nine points.

But Ayla Young hit 15 points for Volunteer State in the first half, and Katie Richardson added 11.

In the second half, WVC improved its shooting a bit, going 13 of 34 from the field, 38.2 percent, and four of 11 from beyond the arc, 36.4 percent.

Rebecca Bryant had 12 points in WVC's second half.

But Richardson went to the line 12 times in Volunteer State's second half, and dropped in eight of those free throws. She also picked up support from Vee Young, who added 10 second-half points.

For the game, WVC hit 25 of 70 from the field, 35.7 percent, but only six of 18 from beyond the arc, 33.3 percent. The Lady Warriors were 14 of 19 at the line, 73.7 percent.

Volunteer State for the game, was 37 of 76 from the field, 48.7 percent, including eight of 21 from three-point range, 42.1 percent. The Lady Pioneers were 19 of 29 from the line, 65.5 percent.

Volunteer State out-rebounded the Lady Warriors, 47-33. Kristen Washington and Chloe Obasogie each had seven caroms for WVC with Benita Henry pulling down five. Megan LaRue dished out five assists.

Vee Young had 16 rebounds for Volunteer State with Richardson grabbing 10.

Bryant led WVC with 15 points while LaRue and Tasia Smith each added 11 and Obasogie 10.

Richardson scored 21 for Volunteer State while Ayla Young added 20. Jessica Sukkert and Vee Young both had 14 while Heather Miller scored 11.
