The Wabash Valley College Lady Warriors battled the Lake Land College Lady Lakers on even terms for nearly 38 minutes Wednesday night, but eventually dropped a 50-45 decision.

The game was tied at 41-41 with 2:26 to play when Lake Land's Jill Ginder hit a three-pointer from the top of the key to give her club a 44-41 advantage. Erika Schwartz then added a bucket for Lake Land.

Chloe Obasogie scored inside for the Lady Warriors to narrow it to 46-43. Schwartz hit a free throw, which was countered by Tasia Smith's shot in the paint. Smith's bucket narrowed it to 47-45 with 25 seconds to go.

It would be WVC's last bucket. Ginder added three free throws in the last 15 seconds for the final margin.

Smith led WVC with 12 points while Montrell Mills added 10

The Lady Warriors hit 10 of 33 from the field in the first half for 30.3 percent, but that fell off in the second half and WVC finished with 18 of 65 from the field for 27.7 percent. From three-point range in the first 20 minutes WVC was one of seven, 14.3 percent. For the game it was one of 12 for 8.3 percent.

At the line the Lady Warriors were eight of 10 for the game, 80 percent.

Schwartz led Lake Land with 12 while Mallory Deters added 11 and Ginder 10.

The Lady Lakers hit 11 of 30 in the first half, 36.7 percent, and went 18 of 53 from the field for the game, 34 percent. From three-point range Lake Land was one of five in the first half, 20 percent, and three of 13 for the game, 23.1 percent. From the line Lake Land was 11 of 17 for the game, 64.7 percent.

Lake Land out-rebounded WVC, 38-29. Obasogie, Kristen Washington and Smith each had five for WVC. Deters pulled down 10 for Lake Land with Ginder getting six and Schwartz and Brooke Dunning five each.

WVC had eight turnovers to Lake Land's 18.
