RLC lady warriors advance to Region 24 basketball semifinals

INA - The Lady Warriors will head to Carterville on Friday after beating Southeastern Illinois College 83-60 tonight at home and advancing to the semifinal round of the NJCAA Division I Region XXIV Women's Basketball Tournament.

It was a frantic start for Rend Lake tonight as coach Ashley Allen's team adjusted to Lady Falcons coach Rod Wallace's three-point-intensive strategy that had all but one of his players scoring from long range. SIC, whose season ended tonight at 7-23 overall and 4-13 against Great Rivers Athletic Conference opponents, was up 36-32 at the half.

RLC righted itself in the second half, outscoring the Lady Falcons 51-24 and moving on to John A. Logan College at 8 p.m., Friday night, in the semifinal round in Carterville. The 6-seed Lady Volunteers, who have fallen to RLC 78-54 and 81-45 this season, upset the tournament's #3 Southwestern Illinois College tonight in Belleville. Lincoln Trail will face unbeaten Kaskaskia College at 6 p.m., Friday night. LTC, a 4-seed, knocked off #5 Wabash Valley tonight in Robinson and the Blue Angels ousted a winless Olney Central College in Centralia.

Sophomore All-Conference, All-Region guard Kemmy Dominique led the Lady Warriors in scoring tonight against SIC with her second consecutive double-double. Dominique hit 12 field goals and went a perfect 4-4 from the line for 29 points and a dozen rebounds. All-Conference/All-Region Freshman of the Year Ebony Wilson (Newark, N.J.) pitched in 19 points and nine boards, and sophomore guard Natasha Bonner (Memphis, Tenn.) scored 25.

RLC held SIC to only eight free throws the entire game.
