SWIC Women's Basketball Loses Season Opener To Moberly 51-47

(Sedalia, Mo. - Nov. 6) Despite eleven points from freshman forward Haylee Althoff in the second half, the Southwestern Illinois College women's basketball dropped its season opener to Moberly at the State Fair CC McDonald's Classic.

Althoff (Okawville, Ill./Okawville) led all players with 13 points and sophomore guard Serena Grapperhaus (Nashville, Ill./Nashville) contributed 11 points. Alicia Kueker (Perryville, Mo./ Perryville) and Lauren Timmermann (Carlyle, Ill./Carlyle) each chipped in 5 points as well.

After taking a timeout with 13:35 left in the 1st period, the Lady Greyhounds went on an 18-9 run to close out the first twenty minutes and lead 27-21 at half. With five minutes gone in the second half, the Blue Storm would find themselves trailing 35-26. SWIC chipped away in the closing minutes of the second half. They got as close as 50-47 on a three pointer by Althoff with 1:30 remaining in the game, but Moberly was able to hang on in the end.

The Blue Storm returns to the hardwood tomorrow to take on the Lady Roadrunners of State Fair Community College in a 5:30pm match.
