Roadrunners Drop Anvil On Blue Storm 57-38

(Sedalia, Mo., Nov 7) - The Southwestern Illinois College women's basketball team suffered a second consecutive game of cold shooting in a 57-38 loss to State Fair CC. SWIC, now 0-2 overall, will travel to Mineral Area College on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. tipoff.

Sophomore forward Lauren Timmermann (Carlyle, Il./Carlyle) had 8 points to lead the Blue Storm. Sophomore forward Alex Dotson (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville) contributed 7 points as well.

SWIC trailed the entire game and couldn't seem to get in gear offensively for most of the contest. A jumper in the lane by Timmermann put SWIC on the board at the 19:22 mark of the first half. Over the next twelve minutes, State Fair would go on a 19-6 run and lead 21-8 with 7:32 remaining in the half. The Blue Storm pulled within five, 21-16, on two free throws by freshman forward Anna Hackman (O'Fallon, Mo./Ft. Zumwalt West) with 3:15 left in the first half. The Roadrunners hit two big three-pointers on their next two possessions and held a 29-19 advantage at the half.

At the beginning of the second half, both squads battled back and forth but State Fair was able to increase its lead to 39-27 with 9:02 remaining. The Roadrunners would have a balanced offensive attack for the remainder of the game and close out the Blue Storm on an 18-9 run.

Brittany Young led all players with 18 points, while Ciara Leak and Hattie Harris had 8 and 7 points, respectively, for the Roadrunners.
