Lake Land women beat Kaskaskia

CENTRALIA—Lake Land's women's basketball team won its Great Rivers Athletic Conference opener Monday defeating Kaskaskia 74-70.

Layne Curley scored 15 points to lead the Lady Lakers. Mattoon graduate Samantha Thompson scored nine.

"We were down 10 with four and a half minutes to play and had a rally, outscoring them 15-1," said Lake Land coach David Johnson. "Our full court press forced a lot of turnovers toward the end of the game and we were able to get into our offense and get some quality looks."

Lake Land improves to 2-2 overall and is scheduled to play another conference game Saturday at Shawnee Community College starting at 1 p.m.
