Lady Trailblazers winning streak continues with big Region 24 win over Lincoln Trail

VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University Lady Trailblazers increased their winning streak to eight Wednesday night at the Physical Education Complex, going nearly wire-to-wire over the Lady Statesmen of Lincoln Trail College to win 100-68.

After the Lady Statesmen scored the first basket of the game, the Lady Trailblazers answered back with a three-pointer on the other end to take a 3-2 lead.

Vincennes would go on to hold this lead throughout the remainder of the game as the Blazers quickly jumped ahead with an 18-2 scoring run to lead 18-4 and hold a double-digit lead at 25-15 after the first 10 minutes of play.

Lincoln Trail cut the deficit down to seven early in the second quarter with a 6-0 scoring run, which the Lady Blazers responded back with six unanswered of their own.

After a late string of baskets by Lincoln Trail late in the second quarter, the Blazers were still able to hold on to a 45-32 lead at the halftime break.

The two teams traded baskets for most of the third quarter, with VU holding a 60-50 advantage before closing out the quarter on a 10-4 scoring run to lead 70-54 heading into the final period.

VU looked to all but seal the game away in the fourth quarter and did so with a monster 18-0 scoring run to grow the lead to 94-58.

Lincoln Trail was unable to put together a big scoring run to answer back and the Lady Trailblazers cruised late to a big 100-68 victory over the Lady Statesmen.

Vincennes was led offensively Wednesday night by freshman Destinee Hooks (Indianapolis, Ind.) who led the way with 18 points and six assists.

Sophomore Brie Miller (Bainbridge, Ind.) had a big game off the bench for the Blazers, recording her third double-double of the season and fourth in her VU career with 14 points and a team-high 15 rebounds, including six offensive rebounds.

Sophomore Johnai Wimbleduff (Indianapolis, Ind.) was the second of three VU double figure scorers off the bench, ending with 12 points and four rebounds.

Freshman Taylor Guess (Indianapolis, Ind.) was the third, finishing her night with 10 points and three rebounds.

Sophomore Katrina Litte (Valmiera, Latvia) and freshman Karina Scott (Noblesville, Ind.) were the final VU scorers in double figures, each recording 11 points and each connecting on three three-point shots.

Litte added four assists and three rebounds, while Scott filled up the stats sheet with a team-high seven assists and six rebounds.

The Lady Blazers as a team connected on 14 three-point shots on the night and really shared the ball well, assisting on 33 of their 39 field goal makes.

Vincennes will return to the home floor this weekend for another tough Region 24 showdown Saturday, Jan. 27, this time coming against No. 7-ranked Wabash Valley College from Mt. Carmel, Ill. Tip-off time for that game is set for 5 p.m. eastern.

The Lady Blazers will then be idle during the week next week, before flipping the Region 24 schedule over for a second matchup against Rend Lake College inside the Physical Education Complex, Saturday, Feb. 3. Tip-off time for that game is set for 7 p.m. eastern.
